On Tuesday, 7 October, the official opening ceremony of Student Tech Challenge 2025 took place – a nationwide team competition for students of technical disciplines from higher education institutions across Ukraine. The event is traditionally organised by Huawei Ukraine with the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

This year’s competition has brought together a record number of participants – 190 students forming 46 teams from 20 Ukrainian universities, including four teams from the State University of Information and Communication Technologies (SUICT).

Throughout the challenge, participants will work on developing innovative solutions to address real-world problems in the following areas:

• Radio Access Network Planning – designing and optimising mobile communication radio networks;
• Datacom Engineering – creating and improving solutions in the field of data transmission and networking technologies;
• Transport Network Engineering – planning and developing transport networks to support telecommunications services efficiently;
• Digital Energy – introducing innovative approaches to energy efficiency and energy resource management.

The teams’ projects are being developed under the guidance of experienced trainers and with mentoring support from Huawei Ukraine experts. The winners will receive valuable prizes and the opportunity to join Huawei’s mentorship and accelerator programme.

The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Volodymyr Shulha, Rector of SUICT and Doctor of Historical Sciences, who delivered a warm welcome to participants and guests:

“I sincerely congratulate you on the opening of Student Tech Challenge 2025 — the national team competition for students of technical disciplines, traditionally organised by our long-standing and reliable partner, Huawei Ukraine. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the entire Huawei Ukraine team and, personally, Director Mr Tony Cao, for giving our students this celebration even in such challenging times for our country,” noted Professor Shulha.

Professor Shulha also expressed his gratitude to Ukraine’s Defenders for making it possible to hold such events despite the ongoing war, and encouraged students to approach the competition with enthusiasm and determination:

“Participation in the Student Tech Challenge is an invaluable experience that will enrich your studies and support your future professional growth. It is also a wonderful opportunity to learn from leading industry experts and to network with peers. I wish all teams the best of luck and outstanding performances – may the strongest win!”
